Coat Cull!

One of the challenges of living in a place where 'stuff' is so easily to acquire and cheap is that before you realize it you closets are full. One solution is the random cull. Pick an item, like coats, and go through all of them. Try them on for size, look at the coats on in a mirror, empty the pockets of each coat, then decide - stay or go. So where do the coats go? Well in Calgary, in the month of December the coats can go to the Drop-in centre. The best part is that the coats are access at the Drop-in Centre for how well each item will meet the needs of the people the Drop-in Centre represents, and the coats that are not good enough to reuse will be recycled and that the Drop-in Center gets a dollar value for the coats that are recycled. The ultimate Win-Win-Win-Win (out of your house-not in a landfill-used by someone else-or possible cash for a charity). How to participate: http://calgary.ca.eventsdroid.com/4th-annual-jacket-drive-for-the-calgary-drop-in-centre.html What is accepted:lightly used winter coats of any size, colour, gender or age. Where: 1. Jackets can be dropped of at 177 Chaparral Valley Drive SE or 2. at any of the Group 933 Locations (Roosevelt, 1410, 1600 and 80th & Ivy). 3. Jackets can also be picked up, please email at Info@MathewSaidMorley.com to make arrangements. Make the cull a family event and enjoy!

Welcome back!

So one of the things I have learned is that nothing is as easy as it seems. Obviously, giving the time between the first post and this post I got busy, forgot the blog, lost the blog, and now I am back. Hopefully I will have something positive to post, we will see. If I recall correctly, one of my goals was to become more of a minimalist. I do not want to say that I failed, in that this is a journey and I have learned a few things along the way. Minimalism needs to be a daily practise. Like meditation, working out, eating well, and getting enough sleep. This is hard, because we have jobs and families and bad days. Occasionally, there is a bigger challenge thrown at us like illness, major career changes, or new babies, or elderly parents. So I start again. Please join me. So there are 98 days left in 2014. My goal is to do several things everyday for the next 98 days and see where I am on January 1st, 2015. I have a habit of being to ambitious at the beginning and feeling like I failed at the end of a project. This is one of the things I am going to challenge. To help do this I am going to relay on FlyLady.com pretty heavily. This is an organization, homemaking website that focuses on several things to ensure success. Firstly, stop blaming yourself, there should be no guilt. One of the motto's is "Jump in where you are". Ok, I can do that. Second premise is that "You can do anything for 15 minutes". Yes I can, how about you? Third premise is start small and build on that. Seems obvious but I tend to forget that point, I tend to assume that everything will take longer that it might actually take. Fourthly, the problem is not you it is perfectionism. That perfectionism undermines you. It sometimes does with me. I get lost in thinking about every possible out come and forget to take the first step. One of my goals is to change that. Which begs the question which project to take a first step on? I have a few. I am re-imaging my career, I have accepted a modeling job for the end of October so I want to lose some more weight and tone some muscle, I want to get out and do more things and more things with other people. there are a few more, see the challenge, I am a Gemini and like lots of stimulation. Focus. What do you want to accomplish before the end of the year? Who are you working at becoming? All the Best!!
